Jacques-Louis David

This is a portrait of Madame Seriziat and her child, by Jacques-Louis David, who was imprisoned for supporting the French Revolution. Later, as a Napoleon friend and loyalist, the painter David (pronounced "dah-VEED") founded the Empire Style of painting, which employed warmly vivid Venetian hues. Jacques-Louis David was born in Paris on 30 August 1748, and passed away on 29 December 1825.
